Doll Care FAQ

Q: Can I use any other doll hair products on my doll?

A: Try not to. Drugstore empty spray bottles should be rinsed out before use and if you choose to buy a store bought brush, make sure to never use it on any body or animals real hair, for oils can leak into the brush, leaking back into your dolls hair which will ruin it. Hairsprays, heat protect ants, stiffening sprays, and detanglers are all no's no matter what the formula is. I highly recommend the Doll Hair kits offered by American Girl.

Q: How do I wash my dolls skin?

A: You can purchase the AG skin care kit or use my method: Carefully take an UNUSED (a used one; even washed ones still transfer oil) wash cloth made of cotton (other rough textured will ruin the doll's skin) and lightly soak it in room temperature water, using no soap. Cover the dolls eyes with a grocery bag or you hands and cover her body with a towel. Pat the cloth on her skin and rub it around carefully, making sure no water leaks into her body, or neck socket. Dry with a paper towel by evening lightly patting it to her skin.

Q: Can I use hot hair tools on my dolls hair?

A: No matter what videos, commercials, or anything, NEVER use any hot tools on your dolls hair. They may look great but after time, your dolls hair will stiffen and dry out. If you want to curl your dolls hair, use the AG curling rods (no other products). If you want straight hair, try your best to wet down her hair and softy brush through the curls. To get curls back, finger curl her hair and leave it dry for a couple hours.

Doll Clothes FAQ

Q: Where can I buy clothes for my doll besides American Girl?

A: Search your local Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Target, and Walmart. They have their own lines of dolls but the clothes fit just right. Same with the furniture and accessories. Toys R Us carries the Journey Girls line that has furniture, cute clothes, a loftbed, cellphones, and much more for any 18'' doll like your AG Doll.

Q: Can I wash AG Clothes?

A: Most of the time you can but be very careful when you do. Don't mix your clothes with your dolls and if possible, put the drying and washing settings on "Speed" so the clothes don't get ruined.
